Bernardine (born 25 November 1988) is a singer, songwriter and producer from Perth, Australia of British and Filipino descent. Bernardine was an accomplished instrumentalist from an early age. She studied classical guitar, percussion and piano throughout her schooling. She went on to university at age 17, studying Classical piano at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Art (WAAPA). After a year Bernardine quit her studies to pursue contemporary music.
In 2006 at age 18, Bernardine travelled to Melbourne, Victoria and resided in a hostel in St. Kilda where she worked as a waitress. Bernardine decided to earn extra money as a busker. She took up singing and performed regularly in St. Kilda and Prahran accompanying herself on guitar. Soon after Bernardine performed in her first open mic performance in Elwood where she became a regular performer. In Melbourne, Bernardine wrote several original songs. Her time in Melbourne came to an end after four months when Bernardine had to return to Perth due to family issues.
Upon her return to Perth in 2007 Bernardine continued to sing and became a regular busker in Fremantle. She later gained her first professional regular gig at a small bar in Perth city in 2008. Since 2008 Bernardine has played thousands of performances in the Perth live music scene and she continues to support herself as a professional musician in Perth city and surrounds performing original music and as a Champion Music artist.
Bernardine reignited her classical piano studies at the University of Western Australia (UWA) where she completed a Bachelor of Arts double majoring in Music Studies and Specialist Music Studies in 2015. While classical music will always be one of Bernardine's specialities, she remains a contemporary musician and continues to write and perform original contemporary music.
Bernardine’s original music industry debut was in May of 2014 where her act was selected to perform at State of the Art Festival, a new annual music festival showcasing Western Australia's best original artists.
In July of 2014 Bernardine made her first international release, a commissioned work in the ‘inspirational’ category, entitled As Far as the Eye Can See, which was debuted in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for a Humanitarian Affairs conference.
